Policy on Regulation

Regulation should be sane.

This seems a bit obvious. However housing regulation is under the spotlight, and it is of-the-scale insane.

Housing is required to meet minimum standards, beyond the obvious ones that you should have the legal right to build there, and that you shouldn't harm others.

But homelessness is obviously the most substandard housing that you can imagine. And homelessness is widespread. It is simply insane to say to people: you have to be homeless because housing meeting minimum standards can't be built for your budget on your land.

If the government wants to have standards of this sort then they need to declare homelessness illegal, and they need to make up the funding shortfall to meet those standards. I'm sure that homelessness should be illegal, as it is in Finland, and that the government would then be quick to retreat from insanity.
